Recipes From Concrete Land:

$50 Hippie Princess (-Grain)ola Bar & Trail Mix Recipe
(it was so yummy, I thought it needed it’s own page, click on the link)

Hippie Princess Green Smoothies
Yields 5 Servings. Recommended for Breakfast.

2 to 4 handfuls of greens- spinach, kale, or other healthy organic green veggies.
(I purchase mine at the Farmer’s Market or Trader Joes)
4 Oranges or 4 Cups Orange Juice
1 to 3 other fruits- banana, pear, or apple
(usually acquired via dumpster rescue)

If you’re getting really fancy you can add powders or superfoods like Spirulina, Goji, Matcha, Chia, etc, but I haven’t gotten that fancy.
Without the fancy stuff, this smoothie usually costs about $5 to make for my week’s breakfasts, considering I have usually rescued all but the leafy greens.

Yummy Hippy Stir Frys

2 bulb onion, 4 clove garlic, 1 squash per person, bell peppers, green onion, 5 tomato. Caramelize onion with garlic, add squash until translucent, add green onion, add bell peppers, add tomatoes last.

Fry Eggplants and garlic, add a bit of water as needed, fry until eggplants are dark color, for a more oriental taste- add a mixture of soy sauce, ginger powder and sesame seeds, simmer until done. For a more italian taste add tomatoes, oregano, basil, and salt to taste.

Healthy Vegan Chocolate Pudding

1 Cup Water, mix in 1 Tbs Cocoa Powder, 1/8 Tsp Stevia, add 1/4 Cup chia seeds, wait 10-20 minutes to let seeds soak. Can substitute Stevia for raisins or dates, put them in the blender with the water before you add the seeds.

Granola

18 C Oats, 4 C Sunflower Seeds, 1 C Sesame Seeds, 1 C Flax (1/2 Grounds), 1 Tbs Salt, 2 Tbs Cinnamon, 1 Tb Ginger, 1/4 Tb Nutmeg, 1 C Oil, 2.5 C Honey, 3 Tbs Vanilla.  6 Trays in oven @ 325 for 15 min, stir, give 10 more min in oven.

Vegan Brownies

Blend dates, walnuts, and cocoa in a food processor. Shape into brownie shapes. Cut and serve.

Vegan Crepes

1 part flour, 1 part water or vegan milk product like Rice Dream, 1/4 part oil + salt, vanilla, sugar, herbs, etc to taste. Mix together. Ladle into hot pan and spread the mix out in a thin circle with the ladle or crepe making stick. Flip.

Chocolate Mousse

Whipped avocado, cocoa, agave, vanilla.

Dessert Balls

Some combination of oats, nuts, dates, raisins and chocolate chips combined and stuck together with peanut butter and/or honey.  Roll into balls and present on a plate.

Egg Nog

1 egg yoke per cup of milk, cream, vanilla, nutmeg, and maple syrup/honey. Put in blender.

Wine

2 cans juice concentrate, 4 cups Sugar, 2 1/4 tsp yeast, add water to fill until 1 gallon, put a balloon on the jar with a rubber band. When the balloon stops expanding, put wine in a dark place for 2 weeks to 1 month.

Hippy Snack

Peanut Butter, Raisins, Seseme Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, a pinch of Salt, and an optional dash of sorghum, honey, or sugar. Mix it all up in a bowl with preferred perportions.

Nani’s Awesome Biscuits

{Oven 350} {Mix Dry Ingredients: 3ish C flour, 2tsp salt, 3tbl sugar, 4tsp baking soda, 4tsp baking powder, herbs optional. }{Cut in two cold sticks of butter until mixture is beady with butter.} {Make well in middle and put 1/2 C of yogurt/milk/sour milk, add 1tbl of apple cider vinegar if you are using milk.} {Mix until dough is tacky.} {Flour your surfaces, remove dough from bowl and coat with flour, kneed 6ish times, ball dough, flatten to 1/2 inch, cut out circles with a round mug.} {Butter cookie sheet, bake 10-12 minutes}

SunGee Bars

Recipe I bring to DR from my mom. Vegan option possible. Unsweetened option is yummy too. {350 oven, 6x10x2 baking dish}{Prepare and set aside: 1/2 C shredded carrots, 1-2 C chopped apple, 1/4 C nuts and/or seeds, 1/2 C raisins, other good optional additions- banana, berries, dried fruit.}{Mix dry ingredients: 2-3 C rolled oats or museli and 1-2 C flour (amount depends on set aside ingredients), 1/2 tsp cinnamon or allspice, 1/4 tsp salt, other good optional additions- vanilla, peanut butter, nutmeg}{Cream together 2/3 C brown sugar and 3/4 C softened butter or oil, just add the  butter/oil to dry ingredients if you choose not to use sugar}{add set aside ingredients to dry ingredients and mix them together}{Pre cutting dough before baking is recommended and put the spatula between the dough and the pan’s wall and bend slightly toward the center of the pan.   This helps them come out of the pam easier.}{Bake 40 minutes.  Let cool 10 minutes.  This step is important so the bars firm up. Recut bars in the pan then carefully remove them to a wire rack, separated by a half inch. Bake 10 minutes more until toasty on the outside.} Featured in the Owl Creek Gazette Volume2 August2013 under “Trail Mix Tales and Recipes.”

Yummy Hippy Popcorn

Mix salt, onion powder, dill, and nutritional yeast, garlic powder too if you like it. It is recommended to put seasonings in a spice grinder and sprinkle over buttered popcorn. Tastes kind of like addictive potato chips.
